War 2 Movie Review 2025

Thrill of intense spycraft and heart-pounding proportions, add a combination of actors so explosive it will leave audiences breathless that is, in a nutshell, what the War 2 offers. War 2 is being produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner which will also be the sixth feature film in its acclaimed franchise of stable of films-The YRF Spy Universe and the highly awaited sequel to the 2019 behemoth War and is directed by Ayan Mukerji.

With Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani as the lead cast, this thrill ride action film is set to be full of adventure, excitement, and comical twists in disguise in promises of a better spy world at the end of the credits.

Cast & Characters:

– Hrithik Roshan reprises role of the mysterious Major Kabir Dhaliwal.

– Jr NTR, who enters into his first Hindi film, is essaying the one to not let go man, the special forces officer Vikram Chelapati.

– Kiara Advani proves her worth in the acting department in her role as Kavya Luthra with poise and defiance. Her focus shows – she allegedly went on a three-part regime (structured diet consisting of pancakes, regular cardio and a strict 8 hour sleep timetable) for three whole months in order to get the part.

– The cast gets bigger with Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana also amongst them.

Story & Spy Thrills:

The set-up is a good one: Major Kabir Dhaliwal, former god-like RAW agent, turns rogue and becomes a serious menace. In comes Vikram Chelapathi, he is supposed to capture Kabir before it gets late. The film traverses the globe by filming across continents, including Mumbai, Spain, Italy and Abu Dhabi, which bring out the international size of the espionage.

The movie is packed with high-octane action, visual spectacle, suspense, and emotional undercurrents the post-credit twists, two of them, push the YRF Spy Universe canvas even further on.

Visuals & Music:

It is among the costliest movies in India history as it cost 300-400 crores.
It is released in several high-end formats IMAX, 4DX, Dolby Cinema, D-Box, ICE and gives the viewers the maximum possible perception.
Grand stands out the soundtrack. It includes music by Pritam and background score by Sanchit and Ankit Balhara. Two solos-Aavan Jaavan and Janaab-e-Aali, form the prelude – the former a romantic song featuring Roshan and Advani, released on Advani birthday (31 July), the latter released at the time of film launching.

Box Office & Audience Response:

War 2 had an earth-shaking opening earning more than 50 crores in India alone- one of the best opening of the YRF Spy Universe. In its initial six days, it reached the international collection figure of 180 crore crystallizing it as a significant business event.

But gains lost steamer the Independence Day weekend. Collections plummeted on the opening Monday falling below 10 crore and pressure was supplemented by the success of Rajinikanths Coolie, that crossed 200 crore around the same time. Though the movie continued to attract an audience because of the star appeal and action spectacle, it was difficult to maintain a long-term run.

A few opinions were undecided. Another positive commendation was the chemistry and the sheer massiveness of Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR and there were complaints that the storyline had relied on cliched spy-movies. Critics were not wrong either, citing a lack of screenplay and VFX, at the same time praising the lead performances.

To put it concisely, War 2 bombastically entered the movie theaters with a splash down at the box office; the experience of War 2 has been the attempt to balance between the blockbuster buzz and the gap in uniformity of positive reaction.

OTT & Afterlife:

Fans of the franchise are speculating, and hoping it will be released on Prime Video by the end of November 2025, some three months after its release in theatres, on 14 August 2025. Not yet official.

Conclusion: Is War 2 Worth Your Time?

To be short- yes, especially when you are a fan of adrenaline driven, stylish action. It does not reinvent the spy code but it is a highly entertaining experience with Hrithik Roshan being charismatic, Jr NTR impressively anchoring the film with his power, Ayan Mukerji having a bombastic vision and the YRF scale.

Provided you are invested in the YRF Spy Universe, it is vital to watch the War 2 because during the after-credit scenes, perhaps, there are something bigger on the horizon.

However, when you are seeking solid, character-enhanced spy thriller with innovative plot-lines–you might consider War 2 to be a bit flashy and mired in the familiar. Still, it is a spectacle: rich in the appearance, full of stars and infinitely amusing.

So put some popcorn, find a cinematic format with however much luxurious seating wherever is close to you, or wait about a few months until it can be viewed on OTT platforms and enjoy war 2. It may not be flawless- but it is making the spy game of the Bollywood movies take it full throttle ahead.
